In 1995, I started designing web sites at home for people and companies around the world. The web was hot, hot, hot, and before long, I was too busy to get up and go to work in the morning. Never intending to be a small business owner or entrepreneur, I embarked on a wild ride of web design, dot coms, digital graphic design - and working at home, alone, and for myself.

One day in 2005, I was at the bank, casually dressed, sandaled, no make up... making a large deposit. All around me, former coworkers and other government employees, suited, made up, wearing painful shoes, anxiously watching their wrists and fretting about break time being almost over. I thought "Wow. That could be me! But where did those 10 years go?"

Then suddenly, I felt a little self conscious about my casual attitude and dress.

"Do they think I'm out of work and cashing my unemployment check?"

Or worse...

"Do they think I'm homeless and cashing my welfare check?"

Yikes!

And then I thought

"Hah! They only WISH they could work at home."

Strolling back to my home office, I mused about my situation and the amazing, wonderful lifestyle I'd designed for myself. And I went online, half kidding, to see if I could find a t-shirt that said something like "I'm not homeless, I work from home."

This joke turned into an honest quest to see if there was ANY good merchandise online for the huge community of home based business owners, telecommuting, freelancing work at home sorts of any kind. I found a little here and there for work at home moms, and a number of fairly ugly designs, when the light bulb went on.

"WAIT! I'm a designer. I'LL just make the shirt!!"

And HomeBizWear.com was born ... with the tagline "because you CAN wear a t-shirt to work!"

Suffice it to say, once I got started and began getting feedback from other work at home entrepreneurs, I kept going and going. And going. Using Cafe Press for the print on demand merchandising, I set up shop with the initial designs within a week.
